Aminata Seck, a 26-year-old Senegalese athlete was detained by agents of ICE - the federal agency linked to the United States Department of Homeland Security - when she boarded with a delegation from Muhammad Ali Airport in Louisville on her way to a tournament in New York.

A surgery and a lost time

According to attorney Sadiqa Reynolds, Aminata recently underwent back surgery and is in line for two other surgeries, including a knee, to treat an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

"She needed surgery, she needed medical attention, and she was taken to the airport while traveling with us", Reynolds said.

The problem, according to the lawyer, would have arisen precisely in that period of recuperation: during her absence from the first procedure, an athlete could have lost a term related to a student visa, an essential document for competing in the NCAA.

Another point that complicates the situation is the player's location, as Reynolds claims Aminata has been constantly transferred between Kentucky and Chicago units.

The State University of Kentucky confirmed that Aminata Seck is an active player on the team, but said it would not comment on the case due to privacy concerns.
