Background: the change in technical command and waiting for an elite reinforcement
Syracuse signed Gerry McNamara in March after two seasons at Siena.2003 Prior to that, he spent 15 years as an assistant coach at his alma mater under Jim Boeheim and Adrian Autry.
This history helps explain Moussa Kamissoko's decision. The power forward five-star has announced a commitment to Syracuse, and the move is Gerry McNamara's first 5-star recruit in his career as head coach. For the program, it is also Orange's 2nd 5-star selection in 10 years.
Development: the visit, finalists and reasons for selection
Kamissoko chose Syracuse over a group of finalists that included Florida State, Illinois, Virginia and Oklahoma State.
According to Kamissoko himself, the experience in Cuse was decisive. The coach was a great player at Cuse and went through the entire recruitment process just as I did. He is a coach of players, and that's what I was looking for. You can see that guys like playing for him. The training was detailed with great energy.
He also highlighted the relationship with the technical committee. Since childhood, I remember watching Syracuse, and from the moment they started recruiting me, it felt like home.
The Dome, the team's arena, was the spot that impressed me most. The Dome is what really impresses me. To have an opportunity to play in that atmosphere when it's packed is something I imagined while I was there visiting. I can't wait to play before Cuse fans.
Most recent progress: numbers, profile and grade of 2027
Kamissoko is a 6-foot-7-inch, power forward from New York City who plays at Spire Academy in Ohio.2003 In the SC Next 100 rankings he ranks 15th overall, which places him as 2nd power forward of his class.
On the Nike EYBL circuit with the PSA Cardinals, he posted averages of 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds in 18 games while shooting over 35% from three.
During EYBL games, Kamissoko has converted 563% of the two-point shots.[citation needed] His main offensive strengths appear in scoring and finishing.
Kamissoko becomes the second confirmed athlete in Syracuse's recruiting map,35% alongside three-star Jack Donohue.3% For the program, it is the first major recruitment affirmation since McNamara returned to syracuse and the first five-star athletic hired since Donnie Freeman in.2024 In a broader cutoff, he is also the 2nd five-stars athleter to be chosen by Syracusa since Chris McCullough in.2014
The athlete summed up the expectation: I just want to make sure I'm ready to contribute to victories as soon as I step foot on campus and help compete for a national title.
At this point, the picture is reversed: Syracuse has come out of a trade process in technical command for Gerry McNamara's first major elite signing, and now begins to assemble a group with two names already confirmed for 2027.
