The Warriors have released Obi Agbim.

Golden State Warriors released Obi Agbim a few days after signing him to an Exhibit 10 contract, common format before the final roster cuts. The release does not mean the end of his trajectory at the club: the trend is that Agbim joins Santa Cruz Warriors affiliate in G League where he can receive financial bonuses and with good performance, contend for a new two-way or effective contract with the main team led by Steve Kerr next season.

What happened?

Golden State Warriors decided to dismiss point guard Obi Agbim just days after hiring him. The signing had been made with an Exhibit 10 contract earlier in the week typical format used by the league to prepare players before the final cut of the roster.

Why Dismissal Does Not Mean the End

Anyone who follows American basketball knows: the Exhibit 10 contract is practically a "drawn path" to the G League. If the player gets cut and then joins the affiliated team and stays there for at least 60 days the NBA club can guarantee him a financial bonus.

That's exactly the script expected here: Agbim is due to report to the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State's affiliate in the G League, for next season.

What it means for the player

For Agbim, the move is less bad than it seems. The Exhibit 10 waiver keeps the door open within the Warriors system: good numbers in Santa Cruz can yield a new contract two-way or even an effective link with the main team if Golden State fans see him as a useful piece to coach Steve Kerr .

Where we are now

Golden State closes out another preseason roster adjustment, and Obi Agbim officially begins his trajectory at the Santa Cruz Warriors.
