The opening of the Golden State Warriors 's training camp in Hawaii earned an immediate wake-up call on Monday: Kristaps Porziņģis is out indefinitely with an undisclosed health problem.

Context: exchange in February, contract of US$ 40 million and recent history

The Warriors acquired Porziņģis from the Hawks on the February trade deadline in a deal centered around Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield that same calendar year.

After the trade, Porziņģis signed a two-year,US$ 40 million dollar contract to return to Golden State this summer after averaging 16.1 points,5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 15 games with the Warriors jersey following the trade.

Development: Monday in Hawaii and talks from the general manager

The announcement of the indefinite absence came on Monday, when the team opened their training camp in Hawaii.

"I'm not taking it for granted that he will be out from the start of the season or anything like that. He just isn't available this week ... disappointed that he won't be on court tomorrow, but it is early so I don't want to exaggerate anything".

The statement separates the current problem from a definitive read on the start of the season.

Figures that explain the team's concern

Porziņģis has not played more than 60 games in each of the last four seasons.2024 In the 25 season, he appeared in 42 games with Boston.

This history helps to understand why the fans react with caution when his name enters the absentee list, even without a set deadline.

Immediate effect: pressure on Yaxel Lendeborg

Without Porziņģis at the opening of training camp, the first impact is Golden State's deep-diving pitcher.

Lendeborg was the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft,2026NBA coming out of Michigan.[9] He was the oldest player selected in the first matchday and is touted as one of the most ready rookies for the league,[10] primarily due to his physical style.

In Michigan, Lendeborg emerged as one of the best players in college basketball and led the Wolverines to a national title.

Coach Steve Kerr spoke about the rookie on September 28 2026, in a statement quoted by Anthony Slater (@anthonyVslater):

"He's clearly going to play a lot, he gives us the size and versatility that we need... whether he starts or comes off the bench will be decided in the next few weeks".

The roster plan: renewals, discrete and unknown free agent market

The Warriors have not been active in the free-agent market. The bet was to keep practically the same core they lost to Phoenix Suns in the play-in.[citation needed] The team renewed with Porziņģis, Draymond Green , Al Horford , De'Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II, as well as having recently signed a two-year extension with Steph Curry.

Jimmy Butler is expected back late in the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last year.[citation needed] The only outside signings were Brandon Williams and Georges Niang, who missed the entire campaign2025-26 recovering from a foot injury.

Where 's the team now ?

The Warriors begin training camp in Hawaii with a set-up scenario: Porziņģis out indefinitely, Lendeborg taking immediate pressure on the pitcher and the core led by Curry trying to maintain the base that made it into play-in.
