Milan leads Virtus Bologna and Rome with the biggest budget in Italy
The LBA2026-27 reaches €185 million in spending, with Milan leading €40 million, Virtus €25 million and Roma €12 million but 14 clubs operating at a deficit.

A report published by La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sportweek on Saturday pointed out that the total spending of 16 teams in LBA UnipolSai's 27th edition reached almost 2 million.
The reading for the fan following Italian basketball is straightforward: clubs are spending more, but growth does not mean that the entire league is financially balanced.
Who's on top of the budget
Armani Olimpia Milan leads with € 40 million, and EA7's brand resources account for about half of that total.
Virtus Costa Bologna appears in second, but with adjustment: the club went from € 32 million last season to € 25 million this year.
Behind the Euroleague clubs, Baglietto Derthona Tortona from EuroCup is in third place with € 14,5 million.
In Rome, the resumption is in the numbers: BC Roma, initially known as Roma SPQR, has a budget of € 12 million while Maxima Roma stands at € 10 million.
The Problem With Growth
The Independent Commission for the Verification of the Economic and Financial Balance of Professional Sports Clubs, set up by the Italian government to monitor the sustainability of professional sport, shows that 14 clubs are in deficit.
That is: the total budget approaches € 185 million, but most of the league still operates with accounts in the red.

Where the league is now
The 27th edition of LBA UnipolSai enters the scene with 16 teams, a total budget close to 2 million and a clear financial leadership: Milan, Virtus Costa Bologna and the two projects from Rome appear among the main investors.
