The federal law officially designates Franca as the National Capital of Basquete
O Governo Federal sancionou a lei que torna Franca (SP) a Capital Nacional do Basquete, published no Diário Oficial com assinatura de Geraldo Alckmin. O reconhecimento oficializa o título registrado no INPI em 2023 pelo Franca Basquetebol Clube, fundado em 1959. Major campeão nacional, with 16 titles e pentacampeão consecutivo do NBB, the club has 49 official conquistas and keeps alive a tradição iniciada no ginásio Pedrocão.[citation needed] It is one of the most successful teams in the history of French basketball, having won five national championships since its founding in 1959.[1]

In accordance with the law
The Federal Government sanctioned this Tuesday a law that makes Franca (SP) the Capital Nacional do Basquete.The document was published in the Diário Oficial da União with the signature of Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, who exercised his presidency.
For the fans and for the city's population, it was a title that had been transformed into law or reality in squares for decades.
De apelido a registro oficial (from the name of an official register)
The road to national recognition began in 2023, when the term "Capital do Basquete" was registered at Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) e o dono do registro é o próprio Franca Basketebol Clube. In 2026, the club completed 67 years uninterrupted, since it was founded on May 10, 1959.
O Pedrocão and the generations of legends
A casa do Franca is the Pedrocão Gymnasium, named in homage to Pedro Murilla Fuentes, city's historical coach between 1948 and 1983.
No day in the city, a modality that is part of childhood: In homes, schools and public squares, it's common to see more people playing basketball than football.
A title team on top of a title
O Franca is the major national champion, with 16 titles including Taça Brasil, Campeonato Brasileiro and NBB e o atual pentacampeão consecutivo do NBB, feito inédito.

The current situation
With this sanction, France entered a new phase: the official national title arrived in the same period when the team played the semifinal of Paulista and defended its hegemony at NBB.
